For Friday, 5/10/12, My Last Day
So it was my last day at Germantown Friends School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was a great day. I had all my classes but the day went by very smoothly. I still had two free periods and got to say goodbye to all the wonderful kids I met. I came home after school and for dinner had lasagna, which is my favorite. Then I also got this little cup of chocolate moose and even the cup was edible. Yummy. So after that I went over back to the school for this little thing that is a student run program called coffee house. It is basically a musical talent show. A lot of people, probably everyone is musically talented. Then I got picked up and went back. I got and watched some television with Sonali and Neil. Well on a completely different note, my two week trip was amazing. It was a great experience. Even though Philadelphia is only two hours away the kids here are pretty different but are funny and chill. I met a lot of new kids and made some new friendships. It was fun. Since it is close I plan on coming back and visiting. Well back home to New Jersey. It's been good. Namaste (Hindi way of goodbye).

5/9/12
It was the second to last day of school. I had barely any classes, and we had meeting again at school. But this time the choir sang a song for us. WOW! They are the best choir I have ever heard in my life. They filled the whole room; it sounded beautiful. I wanted to to start singing along but I could not because of two reasons. One, I did not know the words to the song, and two, I can not sing if my life depended on it. So after the meeting I learned GFS is known for their choir. Basically, everyone tries out and only the best make it. Further, like every three years they travel around the world performing. Any who, my day went on and I watched some volleyball being played. They have this open area in the middle of campus and kids set up a volleyball net and they play. It was really funny because some kids are just not meant to be athletes. I mean I may not be the best but I have pretty good hand - eye coordination. So tomorrow is my last day at school and I hope it goes by well. I have all my classes and only one free, but that is alright. Ciao.

5/9/12
Today was just another normal day. I do not know what to write about to make this blog interesting, sorry. Anyway, we had assembly today and the music teacher had students compose their own song, mainly classical and one jazz. It was actually really good and I was quite impressed. Other wise my day was uneventful. I was kind of tired so today I just went through the motions. I got home at five because I had to wait for my ride. So after school, I just hung out and got a free cup of fruit. It was good. I ate pineapple for I think my first time; at least that I remember. So then I came back to the house and played FIFA. I played Neil and beat him 3 to 0 but he does not play a lot and I love FIFA so it is ok. Well that is all I have for today. Au Revoir.

5/8/12
It is a Tuesday. I went to school. School felt pretty long becuase I was tired. I was tired because I did not sleep much last night. So I am taking art class and I have not taking art in about five years. Also, I am terrible at art. But I am in the class and we are painting this thing on cylinders, with water and with living goldfish in three of the cylinders, and two boxes. Mine is coming out to pretty amazing. The teacher said it was the best he has ever seen. No I am lying, its probably like below average. Anyway, everyone else in the class is actually really good. So that is my experience in art. I did a lab in biology and I created a something based on the genes passed down from the mother and father. It went by quick so I was let out of class early. Today was a good, normal day, not too eventful like some other ones. But this is my blog for today. Adios.

5/7/12
So today was the beginning of my last week at the school. I want this school week to go by as slow as possible. I am enjoying this experience. I am making new friends and I am just getting comfortable in how the school works. Today I took two tests. One in precalculus which was pretty easy for me. Then I took and pop quiz on Malcom X on the book they are reading in class. Luckly, I had a packet on some of the things in the Malcom X movie so I atleast got some questions right. I mean good thing the grades at the school do not count for my grade at my school. I do not have any homework tonight. But I did do all my homework due today over the weekend. After school, I went to go play basketball. It was quite enjoyable. That basically wraps up my day.

5/6/12
I had a long but historical day. We started off the day by going to a rich country club for brunch and a cricket festival. I saw a gorgeous red Ferarri. It was a "love at first sight" kind of deal. I miss the car so much. Only if I could see it again. But after we went in Philadelphia and saw the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall (where the constitution was made). It was a nice scenery. I have been there and went on a tour before for a school feild trip, but it was still neat to see it again. After we went to this famous ice cream place called Miga; it servers Italian ice cream, gellato. Then we went back home, and I finished off the day with this blog that I am writing at this very moment and some NBA and NHL playoff action. Thank you and good night.

Cinco de Mayo
During the day, I did not do much at all. I played a little basketball with Neil, and then just slept the rest of the day. But, around 9, we went out to Center City to eat at a Korean resturaunt. It was delicious. After we walked around and saw City Hall. It was a beautiful building with great architechture. Then all nice lights on the buildings was a nice setting. There was also, a street that on each side going al the way down had a flag of every single country. Also, we passed by those famous steps where Rocky from the movie "Rocky" ran up and jumped and did his little cheer. I wanted to run up the steps but it was late and we were in the car at this point. Maybe next time I can do it. It was a fun night.
For Friday, 5/4/12
So yesterday was Friday and the end of my first school week at Germantown Friends School. The week wrapped up in a nice way, by having good day in all my classes, and each class going by fast. Also, all the students are being nice to me since I am new, which is a plus. Then the weekend started off very well. After school, Sonali (my hostess) Malia and I went to some one's house to take apart a tent. But while I was there, a little snake was on the ground and scared me. Malia picked it up like it was a toy and I just kept my distance because I was scared, eventhough the snake was only like eight inches long. Later that night we Sonali and I met up with Malia and Emma at Malia's house. Then we walked to get some good ol' pizza. It was quite delicious. After eating the pizza, we went over to a park but we did not stay there long because it stared to thunderstorm, so we ran back to Malia's house and hung out there for the rest of the night. It was a good day and night.

5/3/12
It is my fourth day at school and fifth day of being in Philadephlia. School was really fun today because I only had three classes and the rest were free periods. Except one the school had a Meeting. A Meeting is where the whole school sits together in silence for about 45 minutes straight. Somebody can stand up and say a few words that are thought provoking. Three people stood up today, one said how we should keep calm and move on. Another person said how it is nice that we do little nice things for one another. The last person said how you should not "judge a book by its cover." For me, staying quiet for 45 minutes was a huge challenge that I am surprised I accomplished. The meeting is almost like during convocation when we someone would stand up and say a few words.Further, I ate a Snickers; it was rather delightful. I enjoyed that Snickers. Lastly, I came back to house, lied down, did some work, and watched the playoff games.

5/2/12
Today is a Wednesday, and today was a good day. I had only four classes out of nine periods, with three free periods. Except, one period was an Assembly. An Assembly is where either the other whole school or justr the grade meet and announcements are made. Today in Assembly, all the juniors met in one building (I do not know the name of) and we elected four representatives to be in SAC, the Student Activities Council. SAC is what connects students to the faculty in order to make sure that the students suggestions are heard for improving their high school experience. I voted for people and the people i voted for were elected. . . probably not becuase of me but still it was cool. I am starting to get used to how things are out here in Philadelphia; as in how kids act and how the school "runs." I am enjoying my time.

5/1/12
So it was my second day at school and went smoothly. The day started out a little "chilly" and then it became humid and hot and went up to about 80 degrees. I met a couple new kids in class. I had art for the first time in about 6 years. I am terrible at art, so my drawings compared to the others were simply horrific. So the classes expect a lot more out of you then St. Benedict's but the classroom setting is more relaxing. As in, you can just get up and leave to go to the bathroom, you can drinks and sometimes food in class, some teachers will let you out like ten or twenty minutes early. During lunch today I played this sport called basketball; most people heard of it. Then after school I met with my host family and we went home. I got home and played more basketball. It was a blast. I came in and had a bowl of cereal, and some indain food, which was very good. Finally, I took a shower, wrote this blog, and relaxed.

4/30/12
So it was my first day at Germantown Friends School. It is a co-ed school all the way from nursery age to high school. I met a lot of different kids and were all nice. The campus is enormous and beautiful; it gives off a very calming relaxing feeling. The teachers are good but it is different on how they address the teachers, addressing them by their first name, instead of last. The schedule is nice with alot of breaks and free periods built into it, which is something I never experienced so that was fun. During those free periods or times, all the students go to one section of the campus called Hargroves. In the Hargroves building there is a little type of cafeteria area and tables for students to do work; it almost felt like a college environment. Eventhough the campus is big the way it is set up it is easy to get around to places without getting lost, which is good. My first day at the school went pretty good.

Arrival. April 29, 2012
I took two trains from Metro Park to 30th Street, Philadelphia, Pennylvania. I arrived to Philadelphia at 3:45pm. I met my host family for the first time by trying to find Neil (sophomore) and Mrs. Singh in the train station. Then, we went to my new home for these next two weeks. A beautiful, welcoming home. I met Sonali (junior), and then Neil and I went to go play some basketball outside. I won a game and lost a game. He got lucky. Later, Mrs. Singh took me to the grocery store and we bought my favorite cereals, Captain Crunch and Cocoa Puffs, and my favorite ice cream, Mint Chocolate Chip. Finally, we went back to the house and I wrote this blog.
